Child Day Care - Villa Street, Masterton - Our Programmes

We are committed to providing quality interactions with children which encourage a disposition in children to want to learn, question, take risks and ask why. To encourage children to develop a sense of self-esteem and to provide a programme that is reflective of New Zealand curriculum “Te Whariki”. Ministry of Education 1996.) We are committed to working in partnership with parents and encourage parents/whānau to be involved in decision-making concerning their child’s learning.

Our Procedures

Teachers observe all children throughout the term, recording relevant information on the termly planning sheet which is displayed on the wall. At the end of each month these are to be filed in the programme planning folder for future reference.

Spider-charts detail collective information about children’s common interests, strengths and needs (displayed on the wall) - For infants and toddlers this could also contain schemas or dispositions. For young children these are created alongside the children within group time and extended upon to included ideas from teachers and whānau. This information is used for the planning and implementation of our curriculum within a range of areas and experiences. There is no limit to how long or how many spider-charts are needed per year-children’s actions determine this. Once they have run their course, spider-charts will be filed in the ‘programme planning folder’.

All above procedures and information obtained through them, will be discussed within fortnightly staff meetings to help inform and develop our planning.
